Bar Hopping In Bangkok

by Larry Willis

Thailand is known for its beauty as well as its active nightlife. Many people, from reading about Bangkok's bars and parties, believe that Thailand is a country where "anything goes." This is a misconception. There are laws and regulations in Thailand just like there are anywhere else, so you should familiarize yourself with them before you go.

When you are in a foreign country, you should never carry your original documents with you unless you know you are going to need them. This would be the case if you were boarding an airplane. You should always make a photocopy of the information (your driver's license, your passport, your birth certificate) and store the originals in your hotel safe or in your hotel room.

Since tourists are drawn to Bangkok clubs like moths to a flame, it's no surprise that pick pockets and other thieves and con men abound there too, looking to make rich targets of the unsuspecting sightseers. Particularly when you are drinking or partaking of locally legal drugs, you should remember to watch your personal belongings very carefully.

Also because of their popularity for all types of people, the government of Thailand and the bar owners have tried to introduce laws that will make the people who are there to enjoy themselves feel more safe. One of these laws is requiring identification be presented before you are admitted to the bar. To be sure, you may want to call ahead to a few places that you plan on going and make sure that a copy of your passport will be good enough to gain you entry.

In Thailand as in America, the significance of secondhand smoke is now recognized and has caused new statutes to be put into effect as to when and if customers in Bangkok taverns may continue smoking. These statutes vary from day to day and week to week, as well as from venue to venue. If smoking really matters to you, you will want to verify in advance the status of a given location.

One of the most popular types of bangkok bars in the late evening hours are the strip clubs. These clubs have a many more lax rules than the strip clubs of the Unite States due to the different laws in Thailand. One common term you may hear at a bangkok bar is "katoeys". This is Thai for "transvestite". This is just one more way that knowing a little about the country you are visiting can save you a little trouble and/or embarrassment.

Although Thailand has many lovely cities, if you are a social night owl, you must check out the bangkok bars. Since there are so many nightclubs in Bangkok, a guide toBangkok bars can be helpful. The variety, style, glamor, and affordable high energy of Bangkok's many nightclubs, bars, and discotheques await your discovery.
