History Of Hate Crimes: A View Into The Future.
A number of terrible offenses have been reported in the history of hate crimes. An outrageous number of people have been injured or killed after having committed no crime other than being homosexual. In many instances it is irrelevant that hate crime laws are on the books. The perpetrators see themselves doing the work of their religion. However, the truth is, they are violating one of the basic principles of every civilization since the beginning of time.

A review of the history of hate crimes reveals that thousands of human beings have been hurt or killed because of the hate crime. To the rest of the world, this country is one that was built on the foundations of freedom of religion and thought yet individuals are killed for their perspective on an issue. From the history of hate crimes it may be seen that they will always be with us, though it's likely that people learning about them will make their frequency decline. Unfortunately, however, the 60's and its civil rights movement has shown that hate crimes will continue on far into the future.
There has also been a marked decline in recent hate crimes due to the sheer fact of fear. Many victims do not report the crimes because they are afraid. A lot of people don't think that the police will act for the good of the gays, and so many people who have been victimized go into hiding and do not bring their crimes to the surface. This makes the whole problem worse.
There are numerous rationales behind hate crimes. The foundations for hate crimes range from religion, fear or even cultural reasons. But whatever the rationale behind a hate crime, hate crimes are intrinsically wrong. Hate crimes are not new to this era. They have a long and sordid past and only with diligent and constant effort will they be eliminated completely.
The history of hate crimes against gays is staggering. While the nation itself has hate crime laws, many people who commit these crimes do not care. Statistics are showing that recent hate crimes are declining, but various experts believe that this is simply because most hate crimes against gays are not identified as hate crimes.
