Build Your Own Website: Basic Steps

by Tem Balanco

It is often difficult to keep in contact with your family and friends who may be scattered throughout the world, or even just across town. Even with all the means we have to keep in touch, people are so busy these days that keeping everyone updated on what is going on in your life can be difficult even with the accessibility of phone calls or individual emails. One great solution to this dilemma may be to build your own website.

Making a web site is not difficult, nor is it expensive or even time consuming. When you are in the early stages of planning the site it may take some time, but once you have done that updates can be made simply and easily when the site is up and running.

Your first step will be to choose one of the many available web hosting options for the site you want to make. Your own ISP may provide you with a certain amount of web space that you can use, or you could check out many of the free web-hosting services by using a search engine. If you are willing to pay a little, you can also buy your own domain name, which will also require a modest monthly fee.

The next step is to choose what you'll be putting on your website. To do this, start out by making an outline or notes so that you can begin to organize your content. Organization of content is absolutely essential if you want to build your own website and have success. Keeping things in a logical order will make it easier for visitors to find the information they want, and make it simpler for you to make updates or corrections to the site as needed.

Before you begin to actually build your own website, select the colors you want to use and have a navigation plan in mind. Easy navigation is one of they key components to any successful website. Once you have all of these things on hand, it will be fairly quick to build your own website.

If you are new to website design, there are many tools available to help you. Hosting services often provide templates that will allow you to just put in your own information, and you'll be up and running. Or, you can use a WYSIWYG web page editor. These allow you to layout your web pages without knowing any HTML, and you can see exactly what it will look like when it is finished and up on your website.

If your family and friends are located throughout the nation, you might experience difficulty in staying connected as everyone is so preoccupied lately. So to facilitate things, it might be a good time to build your own website. Creating a website is not a hard task to complete and therefore does not require much funding or time. The first step is to select a host for your site. The next step is to determine what kind of content you want to include. If this is the first site you have put together, you may want to use some of the tools available with many of the online hosting services.
